Hyundai Customizes Equipment to Help Amerigo Metal Recycling Succeed

August 2, 2022

Amerigo Metal Recycling, based out of Lake City, Georgia, specializes in the sourcing, trading, and processing of metal. When Jeff Cammllarie opened the business in 2009, he contacted several dealers in the area in search of equipment. His calls were left unanswered— until he found Hyundai dealer salesman Dale Richbourg of National Equipment Dealers (formerly Grove River Machinery). The very next day, Dale visited Amerigo and sat down with Jeff to discuss his business’s needs.

Dale helped Jeff come to the conclusion that the machine he needed was not available. However, he did his research and helped customize a Hyundai 320 LC with a high rise cab and material handling front end. Twelve years later, Amerigo still uses that 320 LC, clocking almost 40,000 hours in the yard.

It’s our primary production piece of equipment in our secondary yard. Our experience with that first machine has grown into us now operating four material handlers, or excavators that we converted into material handlers, all with high risers and specialty front ends, and a Hyundai front unloader,” Jeff says of the 320 LC.

In addition to the modified excavators, Jeff also brought in a HL955 front-end loader with a quick attachment coupler. “We’ve been using that loader heavily approximately 16 hours a day for the last three years and that has not failed us yet,” says Jeff about the machine.

Amerigo uses Hyundai’s HL955 to move scraps of metal.

“For me, the edge Hyundai has over other equipment dealers in the marketplace is service, their ability to deliver a product ability, to keep us in parts as we need them and the reliability of their equipment. We haven’t experienced anything like the service we received from Hyundai and the support from Hyundai from any other vendor in town. So that’s our edge. They can deliver and our equipment runs when we need it to run, and that’s the edge we get with Hyundai,” Jeff says.
